Marine coastal ecosystems biodiversity, functions and services in a changing environment

To improve the scientific knowledge of the inter-relations between Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services subjected to environmental gradients, and anthropogenic and climate change forcing, in the key marine coastal ecosystems of the targeted marine regions through the review of existing knowledge and the identification of knowledge gaps to be filled by the acquisition of new data through experimental approaches and the use of new methodologies.

• SO1: To characterise interactions between biodiversity, ecosystem functions and ecosystem services, and how these interactions are modified by natural and anthropogenic environmental drivers.
• SO2: To delimitate the safe-operating space of foundation species across the targeted marine regions.
• SO3: To develop an indicator framework of the ecological condition of the ecosystem and its ability to provide ecosystem services facing climate change.
